ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
Student Accounts – Use Contract for
Students
2006 – 2007
Buckingham Charter Magnet High School (BCMHS) has provided
each of its students with their own student accounts on our school’s network. The purpose of providing access to the
Internet and /or school Intranet is to support classroom instruction and
research. Through their own account,
students will be able to save assignments and coursework and share files with
their teachers. These resources are to
be used only in conjunction with teacher directed and classroom assignments and
under the strict terms and conditions of this Use Policy.
Terms and Conditions
ACCEPTABLE USE:
In order to receive their login and password information,
students must have a completed VUSD Internet & Information Permission slip
and a signed Acceptable Use Policy agreement on file. If parents/guardians have indicated on the VUSD Internet &
Information Permission slip to not allow their students access to the internet,
your students’ teachers will be notified.
All internet activities will be planned and monitored by the classroom
teacher.
Student accounts are for the sole purpose of supporting
classroom instruction. Students shall not use the system to engage in unethical
practices or to conduct any activity prohibited by law or district policy. Transmissions of or access to materials
which are in violation of federal or state laws are prohibited and includes,
but is not limited to: copyrighted materials, violent or obscene material, or
material that promotes the use of controlled substances, alcohol or
tobacco. Use for commercial or personal
advertising and lobbying is also prohibited.
The student in whose name the account is issued is
responsible for its proper use at all times.
Students are not to lend their password or account to another student
under any circumstance. Account sharing
is strictly prohibited.
Students shall use the system only for purposes related to
education. BCMHS and its technology department
reserve the right to monitor any online communication and contents of the
student accounts for improper use.
Students will have no expectation of privacy and understand
that BCMHS technology staff may monitor or examine all system activities to
ensure proper use of the system.
Students who fail to abide by these regulations shall be subject to
disciplinary action and/or revocation of their student account, and legal
action if necessary. Any student may be
denied access and have account privileges revoked for breach of this agreement.

Students are not allowed to chat on the Internet (including
Instant Messenger, IRC, etc.)
Students are to use network printers for printing school
projects ONLY. Students will be charged
$.10 a page if they use printing excessively.
Vandalism will result in the cancellation of user
privileges. Vandalism includes
installing or removing software, altering equipment or software in any way, and
any malicious attempt to harm or destroy district equipment or materials or
data.
PRIVILEGES:
Access to the Internet and student accounts is a PRIVILEGE,
not a right. This privilege may be
revoked at any time by Administration upon the recommendation by the classroom
teacher or network administrators.
Inappropriate use will result in cancellation of access to the use of
the Internet or your student account.
Depending on the offense, additional disciplinary action by
Administration may be appropriate.
Reinstatement of privileges will be the option of Administration.
AGREEMent:
I have read the terms and conditions of acceptable use of
the online and student account service provided by Buckingham Charter Magnet
High School. I am responsible and
accountable for my actions and agree to follow all policies indicated in this
agreement and the VUSD Internet Information and Permission Slip. Although I understand that teachers and the
technology staff will monitor students’ access to the internet and content
stored in their student accounts, the school cannot completely control
materials that students may view in violation of Board Policy and this
agreement.
