Which Degree is Which?
After High School there are the following degrees that you can pusure:
Associates Degree: AA or AS (Associate's degree in liberal arts or science). This is a two year degree that is attained after the first two years of college. The degree is usually offered at the Community College. There are some small liberal arts colleges that will also offer this degree. In California there is a track: AA-T or AS-T. This is a transfer track. If you complete the AA-T/AS-T your coursework will be accepted as meeting the undergraduate, general education requirements for the CSU's and the UC's. You will be able to declare your major and will take lower division courses at the community college related to that major. You will receive priority when you apply.
Baccalaureate Degree: BA or BS. This is awarded after the completion of the equivalent of 4 years of college. There are other baccalaureate degrees such as BM (Baccalaureate in music performance). The degree is awarded by a 4 year college or university. Each degree will include the area of study/major that was completed. (ex. BA in English).
Masters Degree: MA or MS. This is a graduate degree. It can be pursued after the baccalaureate (undergraduate degree). It can also be in special areas, and like the baccalaureate the degree will be awarded in a field of study. (ex. MA in Business Administration)
